Stardew Valley looks really interesting and I want to try it out. Does local split screen work well? I see it was added in a recent patch.

Yes.

Wow, I did not even know that split screen was added!
Anyway - just tested it out.

You might want to turn ''auto detect controller'' off in options/settings (or scroll down and click ''start local co-op'') otherwise the game thinks you want to play with controller and other player cannot join.

Game works with Xbox & Nintendo Switch controllers.

As far as I could tell local co-op is limited to 2 players. (Online you can play up to 4) (Maybe locally too, but it took me awhile to even figure the ''no, controller is for second player; oh there is simpler a ''start local co-op'' button in options!'' thing out.

The only thing that might be bothersome in local might be that sounds are overlapping. (Say you just decide to fish, but other person is in mines bashing slimes - you have no choice but to listen to bashing slimes! :D)
Otherwise seems to work excellent!

Sadly I could not make screenshots. :/
(Might add in evening)

Well gog cleared my message while I was writing. Short is split screen works pretty smoothly. Don't choose multiple on the start screen. Start or load a regular game, go to options(game cotnroller icon) scroll down to Start local Coop, the other person will be prompted to press a select/start key on controller(some of the keys require just trying different one's to figure out). There's ussally a button mapped for the quest journal, one for swapping hotbars, one for skipping cutscenes. It takes a little trial and error on some of those. We went a long time thinking she didn't have a was to skip her cutscenes.

Time doesn't pause like in single player. If both players are in a menu, it pauses,. But if one player is playing and another is in their inventory or cutscene, time continues, so you can lose a lot of the day in cutscenes. When one of us gets a cut scene, we have an agreement that the other one opens their inventory to pause time.

Edit: Also when you start a new game, the first menu where you set your name/details there is a wrench icon to the left. click that and you can choose to have 2 starting cabins near each other, or separate if you so choose. We chose near, and play on one shared farm.
