Hello,

When playing Star Wolves on Win8 64 bit I have extremely low framerates.

I have tried changing from the Integrated Intel HD4000 card to the dedicated Nvidia GT 660M but the performance doesn't improve.

I also tried launching the game as administrator and changing the compatibility settings to XP or even Win98, the framerate remains the same. (5 FPS)

Did anyone else experience similar problems, is there a way to improve the framerate?

I'm having the exact same issue... grr. It's not just you, in any case. You seem a bit more tech-savvy than I am, so I'll follow your footsteps and see if I get anything different, I suppose. Anyone else gotten this thing running smoothly on WIN 8?

I'm late, but I just picked this game up recently.

I was having the same problem with the low frame rates, but I think it is now fixed (everything ran smooth after testing).
I am running Win8.1, so it may be worth a try.

1) Right-click on shortcut
2) Click the compatibility tab
3) Tick the "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" box
4) Set compatibility mode if you feel necessary (I found it worked fine on my machine with it turned off)

That is it. Give it a shot.

I seem to be having the exact same probllem with Win7.

GTX-660ti
I7

I tried running it in different compatability modes as well as yours speficially mentioned. Nothing seems to work :(
Same, here. Win 10 64x compatibility mode/scalling not working.

Do you use Windows 10 now? The settings might be different, so I need some help with that.
Did you ever solve this? I'm having the same issue, Game runs at over 400 fps, but is unplayably choppy.
I've tried:
Varius graphics options such as vSync.
Forcing dx9 .
All the compatibility options in W10

Nothing seems to help.

Maybe late but found this solution on the official forums.

"You can actually set v-sync on via the game's configuration file.
If you have Star Wolves 3 on Steam, then look for a Main.ini file under C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\star wolves 3 civil war\.

Open Main.ini with Notepad.
Look for a line with the text [GRAPH].
Now look for line with the text SyncVRefresh under [GRAPH]; may be placed several lines after it.
If you can't find it, then add SyncVRefresh = 1.
Otherwise, change the value from 0 to 1.

This 'trick' also applies to earlier Star Wolves games.

There's also a method to force wide screen resolution in Star Wolves 1 & 2 by manually configuring default.cfg (when no profiles are created yet) and/or [ProfileName].cfg inside the \Profiles\[ProfileName]\ folder (when you already have a profile / play the game).

HTH."

Checking Run as Admin and/or the Program DPI box (In "Change high DPI settings" options) under the Compatibility tab properties fixed the low frame rate for me in Win 10 64 bit. Not sure which as I did both at the same time, but i'm guessing the Admin check was what fixed it.
I can also confirm that the framerate on Star Wolves 1 is terrible. I tried all compatibility options and turned on VSync to no avail. I played this game years ago on much older equipment and it ran much better than it does on Win 10.
