Hello everyone,

I've got a HOTAS Setup over here, but since my Gaming PC is actually a Laptop, and I love to play on the Go, I still would love to be able to use my wireless Gamepad to play X-Wing vs TIE Fighter and X-Wing Alliance. Controllers seem to work with DOSbox, so the older TIE FIGHTER and X-WING Games can be played with it (see nice Control Chart here), but whenever I try playing the newer XWvTF, it exits because there's no Joystck being detected. I suspect the same will happen with XWA.

Is it just my Gamepad, or does it happen with every Gamepad?
Also, most importantly, is there any Way to enable me to play it on the Go with my Gamepad?
Don't wanna carry my HOTAS Gear around. =P

My CYBORG V3 Rumble Pad definitely works although it's not ideal.

You could try the Universal Joystick Remapper. Basically it takes the input from your pad and sends it to a virtual joystick driver.

I've got a Saitek PS2700 Rumble Pad, which is a CYBORG Device as well, and I've just tried launching the Game with this one - and it works. Probably, it's just my odd wireless Controller then, which is a MOGA Pro Power, Bluetooth Controller for Mobile Devices, works for PCs as well. Ever since I got the [rather expensive] MOGA Pro Power - with powerful built in Battery to recharge the Phone on the Go - I figured out how to play racing Games on my Laptop with it. I never ever switched back to my Saitek controller, which just feels so horribly cheap in Comparison. The MOGA feels almost like an XBOX Controller, sooo much better. Also, no Wires! Enable Bluetooth, or plug the tiny Bluetooth Stick in if you don't have integrated Bluetooth, and - connected. That's Mobility at its finest!

Though - back to Topic, I noticed right now, there are no Profiles for different Control Layouts with XWvTF. I'm kinda hoping that the Game saves the Controls in a File which I then could make a Copy of and simply replace by renaming it before playing with Gamepad / Joystick again. If so, perhaps I'll be able to make a .BAT or some other little Helper to do that automatically with a Double Click. Still have to look into that whole Thing. So that's probably fiddly enough as it is.

As for that Joystick Remapper - does it keep the analog Stick(s) working? Or is it just another Keyboard-input Mapper? The last one I tried made the Analogue Stick handle like a D-Pad. Obviously, NOT good. If the analogue Sticks still work though, it might be the (only possible?) Solution in my Case.

I'm still kinda iffy about having too many Programs and Tools and virtual Devices and Drivers installed, which need to run in the Background every Time I want to play with a Gamepad. But I'll perhaps give it a Look, if there's no other Way of getting it to work with this amazing MOGA Gamepad. Won't be carrying any other Controller around!

I found these Entries within the Config.cfg File...

Those might be the ones I'm looking for. There are many other Settings in that File, but I'm happy it's nothing like my Pilot File or something like that. I might actually be able to do this.

The axes on my Joystick stay fully analogue with UJR. Haven't tried it on a gamepad yet.
WELL

As for my MOGA Dreams, they're shattered. Pretty much. Nothing left. At all.

The MOGA registers as a Gamepad in Windows just like any other ordinary Pad, though something seems to be different, still. Even though Windows registers it as a legit Gamepad alongside any other Pad I plug in, the Games just won't recognize it as Gamepad, always prompting to plug in a Joystick while other Gamepads work.

The suggested Software doesn't work, either. I installed everything, UJR and the virtual Driver Program it needs, and followed Tutorials for Setup. While being able to find both my Thrustmaster Joystick as well as my Saitek Gamepad, UJR won't find the MOGA either, just like the Game.

Yet, I can play many, if not all, modern Games with it, perfectly.
It's puzzling. I've never seen anything quite like it before.
[HAL 9.000 QUOTES, WOOHOO]

Well anyways, as for mobility, yeah I guess the Saitek is still more mobile than my Thrustmaster HOTAS, but it feels just so cheap and it's too inaccurate to really do anything with it, also the Cable is like, 5 Meters long. Won't be using this one. So it's either buy another Wireless Controller, which I don't want to since they're expensive, or be stuck like this. I don't particularly like either of these.

Anyways, thanks for helping! So yeah it is possible to play with Controllers using these Programs you provided, as long as they let you map your Controllers Input to the virtual Controller. It didn't let me do that with my MOGA, so, End of Line, right here;

Your going to be in for a world of pain if you try to fly these games with a game pad lol.......if you can do it more power to ya mate! I highly recommend getting a good flight stick instead. My Saitech was around $25 at walmart.
