When I calibrate my joystick in XWing, it always ends up listing slightly off to the side, which is ultimately rendering the game basically unplayable. Anyone know how to fix this so the calibration leaves the joystick centered?

I haven't noticed this issue in any other games, and Windows Joystick calibration tool shows no issues.

I'm using a Thrustmaster Flight Stick X.

If you play the DOS-versions, try to do the following:
1st open dosbox.conf with editor or notepad.
2nd go to the column "[joystick]"
3rd change "timed=true" to "timed=false"
4th save

"timed=true" somehow causes joystick issues when playing X-Wing or TIE Fighter.

And, if you haven't tried the 1998 version, please do.

I use xpadder, fyi. secondly, you can adjust the .cfg file in the dosbox folder. open it with notepad.
file: doxbox_xwing

do a control F to find the joystick section where you'll see

joysticktype=none
timed=false
autofire=false
swap34=false
buttonwrap=false

notice that i entered 'none' for joysticktype. the default is auto. with it being 'none' now, i can remap my entire controller to my liking now with xpadder. i'm a free man.

i switched my left thumbstick to be a mouse with higher sensitivity and the right thumbstick to a lower sensitivity for more precise aiming. works great now. no more controller config bullsh.t

That kind of defeats the purpose of using a joystick in the first place.

uh, I don't see a Dosbox folder OR file anywhere; not in XvT nor in GOG folder. Where is it??

FOUND: C:\Users\(YOUR USERNAME)\AppData\Local\DOSBox

changed it to 'false' and IT WORKED! THANX!
