I have downloaded all the GOG versions of X-Wing and Tie Fighter games but I was wondering what the differences are between them. I can see that the graphics is improved but are the missions the same in the various games?

For X-Wing versions, I have "1993", "Collector's CD (1994)" and "1998". Are the missions the same in the latter 2 the same as the first or are there more missions?

Similar for Tie Fighter versiosn, I have "1994", "Collector's CD (1995)" and "1998". As for X-Wing versions, are the missions the same or do the later versions have more missions?

And if the missions are the same, are they exactly the same or are their refinements?

Thanking you all in advance,

Geoff.
Broadly speaking, the missions are the same.

However the second iteration of X-Wing (the collector's) introduced an alternative version of a few missions, those deemed a bit problematic in the original, which were tweaked to make them slightly easier

In the 1994 version, if you press ESC on the main concourse screen, you shoud see the option menu with a "New Mission/Classic Mission" toggle... I don't remember if the 1998 Windows version kept the dual choice or if they just went with the new missions

Also in X-Wing, another interesting feature that was only available in the '93 and '94 versions, was the option to assign pilots to every ship in the mission after the briefing, in the locker room screen, by selecting one of your other pilots in the rooster... the AI level was based on the rank of the pilot, so you could create copies of your savegame, with a different name, at various stages of your "career" and use them as your wingmen, making them progressivelly better.
This was completely dropped in 1998

As for TIE Fighter, as far as I know, no significant gameplay changes between the 3 versions, just a better engine

Then, of course, for both games there was the (in)famous switch from the iMuse system to the CD audio tracks, but that has no significant effect on gameplay, only the soundtrack
