Hi!

I am trying to use FRAPS and recently Action! to record the '98 versions of the game. Neither of the recording softwares record or react when the games are playing. FRAPS was able to take screenshots and shows the FPS meter but does not start recording. Is there something I am missing or failing to notice? :/

I'm having the same issue - neither FRAPS or Shadowplay seem to be able to record video from either game. Which is a damn shame, because I'd love to record a whole series of playthrough videos - I assume it's some kind of licensing issue, because of all the official Star Wars assets in the game (music, etc), but if it's not Disney trying to protect their newly acquired IP and actually some kind of technical problem, I'd love to find out a workaround to fix it.
i have succeeded in streaming the 94 version of tie fight, but the 1998 version still hides from me. I can't even shift to a window mode in that game
Here are the settings I use for Open Broadcaster to record TIE Fighter 1998 footage (easily tweaked for streaming it):

Settings... > Encoding > Max Bitrate: 10000
Settings... > Broadcast Settings > File Output Only
Settings... > Video > Base Resolution > Custom > 1440x1080
If you are streaming, you will want to make sure your microphone audio is synced to your video. For me this is how I did it: Settings... > Audio > Mic Sync Offset (milliseconds): -167

Save this profile as "TIE Fighter".

Next, add a new Scene Collection (Scene Collection > New) and name it "TIE Fighter".
Create a new scene by right clicking in the Scenes box and clicking Add Scene. Name it TIE Fighter.
Under the Sources box, right click and select Add > Monitor Capture.

In the Monitor Capture settings box that pops up, make sure "Show mouse cursor" is unchecked. It won't appear anyway.

Finally, disable Desktop switching and anything like Skype that will pop up notifications, as these will cause flickering of the screen when they appear.

If you are recording this for Youtube, record your microphone using Audacity or Adobe Audition so you can balance your voice with the game's audio on separate tracks in post-production. TIE Fighter is a very LOUD game. Be sure to disable the microphone in Open Broadcaster. If you are streaming, turn down the in-game sounds.

If your Open Broadcaster's audio settings are set to 48khz (as they are by default), then you MUST record any separate audio files in 48khz as well rather than 44khz or you will not be able to sync your audio tracks.

If you are recording the 1998 version for Youtube, remove the in-game flight music from your game files as this is copyrighted music. These are the 3 .ogg files located in your C:/GOG Games/TIE Fighter/MUSIC folder. Your game will play fine without them.

Additionally, if you edit in Adobe Premiere, you will have to tweak your video file's width and adjust it to 75% scale. I haven't quite worked out why the pixels get stretched on recording, but this puts the game footage back to about its proper 4x3 aspect ratio. The game may also flicker to the desktop briefly when switching between the mission and the briefing/debriefing screens. You can easily cut this out.

You cannot Alt-Tab out of the game, although you can quit the game to make adjustments. However if you do so this will throw your audio sync off for the parts after you relaunch the game. So make sure everything is set just right for your play session before starting the game!

Enjoy! And don't forget to check out my own TIE Fighter Let's Play here! bit [dot] ly/1J4gQmM
