Hi folks,

Very confused: I've been playing X Wing (1998) for a couple of months now with no graphics problems. Tonight I fired it up to defeat the Empire, and the screen resolution of the game has changed. It used to fill up the entire screen and had no pixalation; now, it has two black vertical bands on the sides and everything inside the cross hairs is fuzzy looking. I haven't changed any settings on my computer/installed updates/etc.

I've tried different compatibility modes, but no dice. Any suggestions on where to start? Please let me know what other details you need to help resolve.

Check if there is a ddraw.dll file in the game directory and rename it. How does the game look now?

Thanks, I'll try it when I get home from work. Just to clarify: do you mean rename the ddraw.dll to something else entirely (i.e. drawXWING.dll) or just rename it back to ddraw.dll -- effectively updating the file? Assume it's the latter, but just wanted to be sure.

I meant renaming the file into something else (e.g. ddraw.bak) so that the game can no longer find it.

Nope, didn't work -- same issue.

EDIT:

Update: Sometimes the simplest solutions are the best. I just copied by pilot file and reinstalled the game. Problem solved.
