Was on the verge of buying a tablet anyway, but now the ability to play XWing series games is a priority, I need your advice please. Can I play this game on a tablet (Samsung Galaxy A, perhaps?) or would I need a laptop? Any other tablets that work well for this? Also, consider the joystick as well - was planning to use the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro.

Thanks in advance for your help!
I will assume we are talking about running DOSBox in Android and that you know how to set that up.

If I am correct with that, you can theoretically play with only a controller or joystick, but I would recommend that it has at least 8 buttons that you can map to different keystrokes (could be less if using one of the buttons as a "modifier" for the others), and that is in addition to throttle control. The Extreme 3D Pro sounds about right.

I don't have much experience playing any of the games with joysticks in modern systems, I used one when they originally released along with keyboard, and now I'm using keyboard and mouse with a high DPI setting, so you might want to wait for someone else to answer.

Good luck!

The Logitech stick would work fine... it's pretty much the style of joystick it was popular back in the the day, but keep in mind you will still need some keyboard commands here ane there, unless you go crazy with a profiler software with multiple "shift" states (where you can map a button to multiple action depending on the state of another button).

However, this is tied to the tablet question, remember this is a USB only device, so it may not be straightforward to connect and have recognized by an Android system... barring those control issues, the game itself should work ok on any DOSBOX distribution compatible with the tables OS
