Hi there,
I have a decent quad core PC 3,8 GHz 16 GB RAM Geforce GTX 660 Ti, running Windows 7.
I have Norton Internet security installed and many games.
Only in X-Wing 1998 Version and Tie Fighter 1998 Version (GOG) i get the Norton Message 'Very High CPU Usage'.
I patched the EXEs with the vogons patches to re-enable 3d Mode, but i got the same message too.
1 of my four CPUs are used full 100% the whole session when i play these games.
That never happened before although i have many games (new and old).

As my PC is CPU-overtacted (from 3.4 to 3.8 GHz) i am wondering if excessive playing these 2 titles could overheat and harm my PC?
I know old games can only use 1 cpu but 100% the whole time on a fast PC?

See ya,
Grog

If you have a decent cooler, it shouldn't be a problem. Just watch your temperatures (i.e. with Speedfan) and try keeping it under 60 °C
TIE Fighter 1998 also uses 100% on core 1.
So do X-Wing vs TIE fighter, Populous III, C&C Red Alert and Jane's Fighters Anthology. As I just tried these briefly.

I suppose mentioned games do not include a "rest" function at the end of their game loop code, to give time for the OS to schedule to other tasks.
Example: Allegro: Rest
Fortunately it is just one core.
Try using this to limit CPU usage - http://mion.faireal.net/BES/
