Hi all,

Does anyone know if someone ever developed an HD mod for this game?
I really loved the job done by chief1983 and his guys with Freespace 2!!

Ciao,
Nico

There are no actual HD mods for the old X-Wing and Tie Fighter. The closest you can get is to try modding X-Wing: Alliance, which if you're running modern hardware is not going to work either due to DirectX 6 no longer being supported.

Handy links if you actually CAN run XWA in hardware mode.

Also there are a couple Star Wars MOD's for Freespace 2 Open (which has been updated for graphics and TrackIR). Freespace 2 is available on GOG as well. Youtube has a ton of video demo's

As a poster above said, DarkSabre's XW:A has some HD textures for alot of ships. I tried it, but can't get into the game (it it really hard to make the game run in Win7 on my current setup). It would crash randomly, and the menu isn't right, and my joystick doesn't seem to work (its a standard Logitech stick). So, until someone could port the HD texture over, I ll stick with the game play > graphics line for now. So much nostalgia.

Does this mean I need to re-install Win XP again at some point rather than Win 7? *sigh* the sacrifices we make for classic gaming (and sometimes better FPS)

All for a few textures? That is a lot of dedication to something so pointless.

My reading of what he wrote was that X-Wing Alliance itself, never mind the HD textures, won't run on Modern hardware.

actually it will run on modern systems, it just wont install on them, so either find a complete install, with a registry setup file (which is easier than you might think) or run a virtual system on ya current os, install the game and copy to a usb or something and go from there, if I didnt think it would get me in trouble I would post a DL link to my mega with the full install (still requires the CD)
Xwing Aliiance WILL RUN ON MODERN HARDWARE!!

A French guy in litterly the last month decided to re write the direct draw DLL for xwing alliance so now it runs DX11 AND works on modern ATI cards which has been an issue for the last 2 years or so.

Enjoy friends, enjoy.

Unfortunately i cannot post links yet, however if you google XWA upgrade project, go to forums and then soft/hardware problems the thread you want is Direct3d 11 via DDraw.dll

Enjoy friends and if someone wants to link it below go for it!
You can get XWA running on Windows 7 64 bit with this tutorial.

www.moddb.com/mods/the-x-wing-alliance-upgrade-project/tutorials/x-wing-alliance-installation-on-modern-operat ing-systems

Then after that head over to Darksaber's webpage and get DSUCPv2.1

This will upgrade the graphics as well as as do a full install for no CD's (must have XWA installed per above first)

www.darksaber.xwaupgrade.com/#ds010812

Grab the Reimer's XWAHacker and after you have it upgraded use it to change the resolution

Get the X Wing Conversion pack 3.1 here

www.maxgames.it/xwc/

For the TIE Fighter Total Conversion v1.0 yet but Darksaber's get this here
