Hey guys I was wondering if there is a full list of the best settings to use for each game and the best patches to download and apply. I'm not refering to upgrades to change ship models or how the game works, just things that optimize the game and fix bugs. Like I remember reading that you shouldn't have some sort of cpu speed set too high or a ship won't jump in X-wing cd. Also just yesterday I had tie98 displaying a white screen and found a topic on here with a link to files to put in the tiefighter folder. It worked great and I was wondering if anything else is known that can be adjusted in the different games to improve them and avoid bugs. Another problem I have is that the music doesn't play in the 98 versions of the games anymore.

TLDR What are the best settings and downloads for each of the games in the X-wing Series?

I use 30000 CPU cycles for Xwing CD and 70000 for Tie Fighter CD, both games benefit from having the music set to General MIDI by running the imuse.exe file under dosbox by selecting the "advanced setup" option. This also allows to use a custom soundbank using a saparate soundbank switcher under windows (provided you set the GeneralMIDI device in the Dosbox settings to "win32"), personally I the soundbank timbres of heaven:

This is a program used to switch soundbanks in windows:

All the windows versions benefit from using this DX11 wrapper for 3D hardware compatibility, better resolution and forcing LOD off (also IIRC some joystick emulation if you don't have one as on their default states the windows games refuse to run).

Regarding the music in the 98 versions, that is problematic with windows 10, there are various fixes around but I still run 7 so I can't say which ones are still good to use as Microsoft seems to break the latest fix with windows updates every once in a while.
