There used to be a mission editor out there that let you change the ship for any mission as well as add the tractor beam/jamming beam and any missiles to a mission. Does anyone know if such a thing is still available for the more advanced Windows 8, since no DOS programs can run on W8 anymore?

The TIE Fighter Workshop (TFW2B4.ZIP), available here: http://sco.emperorshammer.org/sco/SCO/sco.tiranto.com/sco/files/tie/misedit.html works in Window 8 64-bit and seems to do the job you would like.
