I've played TIE Fighter since it came out and I was about 13 years old. In fact, I played and loved TIE Fighter so much, that I decided to watch the movies. I was probably the only kid who knew that the medical frigate was a Nebulon-B, but I didn't know who Yoda was or who was whose parents and siblings (you won't get spoilers from me!).

Anyway, this post is about wondering how awesome this game is today for someone who's picking it up brand new like it came out the day before yesterday.

Does it play like a new game to you? Is it spectacular? Is it hard? Or is it just an old game that people remember more fondly than they should?

I've only played about an hour or two so far, and I still can't beat the first mission. I remember TIEs being tough b/c you can just get grazed and lose it. But I'm still loving it. Many good memories and some great gameplay. This time, I hope to actually beat it!
I was a healthy 2-year-old when this game was released... Oh lord.
Haven't played this before (only X-wing vs. TIE fighter demo)

Anyway, gameplay is superb even in today's standards, music and sound effects are pure Star Wars with an original twist and the atmosphere is really great. Graphics are dated though but they're not horrible.

Learning curve is kinda steep as the game doesn't hold your hand (The Empire has no use for weaklings!) but with the right attitude (and controller/joystick) you can become the best pilot since Old Man Skywalker.

Too bad LucasArts never continued the simulator games. Jedi are cool, but space battles and ships have such great game potential. Imagine commanding a Star Destroyer. Man can dream.

They have X-Wing Alliance, which is a really great game. And then they continued with Starfighter and Jedi Starfighter and the like, but those just didn't quite capture the same feel. Those are still pretty good games, though.

It would be spectacular to see something like this built again. I think they'd sell in droves. So long as it was just right.

Thanks for your input!
