Figured I'd give this a go with all the praise I've seen it and X-wing get.

Plugged in my Logitech Extreme 3D pro and started up the game (1998 version). After navigating my way in to the first mission I find that no matter what I do, the game just will not react to any joystick input.

I use the joystick quite often with other (newer) games so I know it works.

Any ideas?

I too am having this problem, using a Logic usb joystick with it not responding to input.

Using the 98 version of the download. It responds okay to mouse and keyboard input, but nothing from the stick.
Hard to go on with the little information provided.

If you're using multiple controllers either unplug them or make sure your joystick is the prefered device in the Windows gamecontroller panel.
I use the exact same joystick in Windows 7 Ultimate. The joystick was autodetected when I plugged it in and works flawlessly in the '98 release.

Like Strijkbout said, try unplugging all others USB devices, or maybe reinstall the game with the Joystick plugged in.
My G940 also does not work - as soon as i touch it after mission load it goes into a spin and stays there, as if I were holding it back and left.

Re-calibrated in Windows and it seems to be fine but no change in the game; any suggestions?

Try pressing ALT-C to calibrate the joystick while in-game and see if that helps.

This made mine work! I have a Microsoft xbox 360 controller that I typically use and it was still set as the preferred device. Changed it to the joystick and everything seems to be gravy!

In Windows 8.1, search for USB, click "Set up USB Game Controller"
Click Advanced
From the drop down, select your joystick
Click OK
Thanks, Bornslip

I turned off all control devices and then indentured the joystick back on again and it then seemed to work.

Subsequently re-enabled the throttle but no joy (never mind); will try ALT0-C, though.
