earthprime: I'm trying to use Controller Companion to bind keyboard keys to my xbox controller, in order to get the xbox trigger keys working to fire weapons. Has anyone been able to re-bind xbox controller keys? I've tried to use Controller Companion but am having limited success.
darthcloud64: Hi use joytokey, just assign a keyboard key to the trigger and right joysticks.
I don't believe using joytokey works (as supposed to). I'm using Xpadder and it's not working as supposed to. Reasons:
- Game doesn't detect the Z-axis, so assigning keyboard keys to the triggers do not work.
- In "out-of-a-ship" missions (where you play as Dash Rendar), you can switch between 1st and 3rd person mode. But the controller can't emulate 1st person shooters. Because the horizontal axis on the left thumbstick will ALWAYS be used to turning (not strafing).
I mean, on DOS games you can always set "joysticktype=none" and emulate everything on Xpadder. With Windows games (the case with this one), this becomes a problem. I remember there were some games that you could "cheat" into unplugging the gamepad, starting the game, and plugging the gamepad after the game was loaded... Sorry, don't remember which game was that. X-Wing Alliance, this doesn't work (game does not start until a joystick/gamepad is connected). To make matters worse, you simply can't assign firing to trigger buttons, and the game will always see them as axis... In this case, SOTE doesn't even detect it.
A total bummer. And it's not GOG's fault... I really have no idea of how to get around this issues with classic games that ran on old Windows software :(
