When I start the game, there is a black screen for about a second and then I am back at the desktop. The game is still running but when I click on the tab in the taskbar, there is a black screen for a second and I am back at the desktop again. I tried to run the game as administrator and in Windows XP compatibility mode. Any suggestions?
Maybe try to install this - http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109
I got it running by choosing "Run in 640 x 480 screen resolution".
Hey, Wicket. I have the exact same problem and I'm convinced that it's because I messed with the default vid settings because it ran fine straight after installing and I played through the first mission fine, but when I went to play the next day I had the same issue as you.

How did you tell it to run in 640x480? I can't actually get the game to launch in order to do that.
Ah. I found it.

For what it's worth, anyone else having this problem, right-click on the Rogue Squadron desktop shortcut icon and select Properties. From there, choose the Compatibility Tab and tick 'Run in 640x480'.

It seems that the game will ONLY run in 640x480 on my Windows 7 Nvidia machine.
If I switch to 800x600 or 1240x768, the game crashes to desktop on start so I've left this ticked as a default, now. It's not like higher resolutions will improve the graphics anyway :D

Oh yes they will ;)

Try using nGlide or D3DWindower, either one should allow you to increase the resolution.
Cheers, Spinorial. Will do.
nGlide works a treat! Nice one!
