Hello, I am growing quite desperate. I am using Win7 at 64bit. Prior to buying the game on GOG I tried every possible method I could find on the internet to get the game to work with my original CD. After that failed I bought the game here. Now, with some combability modes I am able to get as far as to the crawl at the beginning of the first mission, but after the crawl finished and the X-wings did their animation it freezes. I am also not able to simply skip that part by pressing esc. I have gone through every combability mode, trying to find the sweet spot... nothing helped. I have installed nGlide, but that wont help either. I really do not understand how some get this game to work... please help :0

Try enabling/disabling V-sync in-game.
I also did that, but cant remember with which combability mode enabled... I'll try it again, I'll edit the post and say if it works.

Edit: Turning V-sync on/off wont work either...

From experience, the game works best without any compatibility modes set. However, people sometimes need them, usually to set up their controllers. Also, if both the menus and the intro/hangar/scroll are loading normally, I don't think nGlide makes any difference beyond that.

When you say the X-wings did their animation, do you mean in space over Tatooine or the one with dialogue over the dunes. I believe there's a resolution change between the two, at least in D3D. You can try setting the in-game resolution to 640x480 (should be no change then) and test. That said, using nGlide overrides all these resolutions anyway.
Yes, I mean the animation is space. Also, I am able to skip everything (intro, ship selection) but not the title crawl. If I press esc only the music stops. I will try it once more without nGlide and with 640x480.

Edit: No luck, this time I didnt even get past the ship selection...

One thing is that you don't skip things with ESC. That just sends you back to the previous menu. Left click skips everything that can be skipped.

That still doesn't seem to offer a solution, though. You should probably open a ticket with GOG support. It's the weekend, so don't expect any response until Monday, but if they can't get the game fixed for you, you're entitled to a refund.

In the meantime, do you have any controllers or joysticks connected to your system? Have you tried unplugging them, see if they might be causing a problem? Also, you might want to try the windowed mode, as described in the sticky. I don't think it will help, but you might get a better idea what causes the problem.
You wont believe it, the windowed mode did it!! It works like a charm, besides the controls. It is always the one thing you try last which works... So now my question is, how am I setting up the XBox controller? As when I start Rogue-Squadron.exe with the window program I'm going directly to the game, and with Rogue.exe It asks me to install...

Sorry, I don't really have a controller to help you with. Others have reported their solutions, though, so one of them should work for you.

Regarding ROGUE.exe, it probably can't find it's registry entries. Don't run it through D3DWindower and don't apply any compatibility settings to it. I think. Regardless, I don't think you need the launcher to set up your controller, it should be doable in-game. Some people report needing compatibility settings, just for this step, others - exactly the opposite. Try and see ;)
