I have installed the game using the regular gog.com installer.

When running the game, the intro sequence is playing out (X-Wing ship flyes by - things explode, etc.). Although no sound at all in the intro.

I can see the menu, sounds starts for maybe 1 second, and freezed and loops all over again and again to infinity.

I can access the menu and mouse works.

I create a new pilot and clicks [START].

Nothing happens. Mouses freezes the moment I click START. The 1 second sound continues to loop in the speakers.

Only way to exit is with CTRL ALT DELETE and exit the application from there.

If I try to start the game again now, it does not even start - MS Windows error screen, 'could not start - click > exit now'.

I have to log out from windows and log back in or reboot the PC to get the game started again to the menus.. Although same thing as above repeats.

I've also tried installing nGlide, and also choosen the Voodo Video Card under Rogue Squadron Hardware settings.

This only makes one difference, and that is that a 3DFX logo appears before the game starts.. Game still gets stuck the moment I click [START] from the in game menu.

Please help me get this game rolling again, especially sad now when I have paid for the game once again (although I'm happy to support GOG.com).

Thank you in advance!

First piece of advice would be to write to GOG support. They'll be pleased to, for once, get a ticket with this much detail in it ;)

As to your problems, two things come to mind: where is your game installed? Have you tried different compatibility settings? I can imagine it trying to write something to a file and not having, for some reason, the authority to do so.

If you're unable to restart the game and need to log out of windows, it may be because its process is still running. Open the task manager and try to find it and close it manually.

I have a feeling its our Xonar sound cards that are causing the problem. I have the Xonar DX, but I just installed it. Before this I was using motherboard sound and Rogue Squadron worked fine. Now with the Xonar I get the exact same issue you described. If you ever get it sussed out let us know.
