Another file to try: >clicky<
- rename or copy original REBEXE.EXE somewhere safe (in case sth won't work)
- download the file from link above and put it in the game folder
- rename [win]REBEXE.EXE to REBEXE.EXE
- try to launch it directly, if it works, try with GameRanger

It's UNTESTED!! So, if you have any saves and whatnot, backup everything beforehand.
Gameranger lets me add it as a program now :)

As soon as I can, i'll get my brother to test it with me and i'll let you know if it runs.

I just tested this with my friend via GameRanger and I can confirm that it fixed the upside down issues. Thanks so much for the fix.
I am super excited to hear this works!!! Thanks again ^^ (going home to hop on ASAP )
There is a nice thread about this issue on swrebellion forum, including (possible) fix. Basically just use ddraw.dll that is mentioned in the thread or run it in windowed mode. That dynamic library worked for me (altough I do not have the gog edition).

Can´t post links so the site is forums.swrebellion.com, name of the thread "Problems with Rebellion on WIN8". Just google it. Sorry if this has been mentioned before.
Edit: Completely disregard what I had posted here. I missed the more recent file that was posted. Works perfectly!

The .EXE posted above fixes the upside down items but the game is now windowed and not "borderless" windowed, (Hope that makes sense) seems playable, only a part of the right and bottom of the window are off the screen.

Are those forums still online? I am unable to access anything when trying to go to that site? I would like to try that .dll

on Win8, if renamed correctly, should not be off screen. There is a compatibility fix (added during installation via .sdb file) that correct this specific issue.

If the game window is partially off-screen, it means that something went wrong during installation.

I did a fresh install, I never used the original .EXE (Not sure if this matters) and only used the one you posted (After renaming it) , and everything works GREAT ^^. Thanks a LOT!!!

my rebel and empire icons are switched.....any ideas
I am playing on windows 8.1 64 bit. My display is Nvidia GeForce GT 635. I have a widescreen monitor set to 1920 x 1080. I no longer have my icons upside down, and the colors seem correct. My game is full screen in a bordered window, which is annoying. So far, here is what I have done. I replaced my rebexe.exe and d3drm.dll, and adjusted settings on the desktop shortcut. To be clear, I have a widescreen display, and the game fills it, with the addition of the windowed bar, complete with the minus, box, and x in the top right corner, which forces a portion of the game down too far.

I have toyed with several settings, including every option available on the desktop shortcut to remove sight of the window to have a truly full screen game, but to no avail. Furthermore, during any manual battle, i have two windows pop up stating "the pixel format was invalid as specified". This error does not crash or end the game, however.

After spending long hours reading every article and thread I could find, I have returned here in hopes that someone can stoop to my level, and explain how to fix this to me, if that is even possible.

Thanks in advance!
Hi,

I have Windows 8.1 x64. I have fixed the upside down problem by adding -W to the shortcut. However, this means that the game runs in a very small window. If I edit the shortcut to run in maximized mode, even though the window fills the screen, the game screen continues to fill only a small bit of this window - see attached image.

I tried replacing REBEXE.EXE with the [win]REBEXE.EXE file, renaming as instructed, but I get an "Error: CD not found" message. I did notice that the [win]REBEXE.EXE file is version 0.1.0.1, whereas the REBEXE I replaced is version 0.1.0.2, so not sure if that is anything to do with it. My original .exe file was the SUPREMACY version.

Any advice to fix this small window problem would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Enforcer

First off, LOVE that GoG put this title out and am even more impressed by Thiev posting files in January in an attempt to fix upside down icons on Game Ranger for some users.

However, I am getting a persistent and specific virus notification (Trojan) whenever I try to download Thiev's modified .exe on this site. I was wondering if this is a false positive or if perhaps the google location where the file was stored has since been hacked.

Is anyone else seeing this behavior?
