Axis_WLF: Anyone have any particular questions or requests please do not hesitate to ask. What I posted is enough to get you out of the noob corner and on the fast track towards a seasoned veteran.
Hey thanks for the info. I know it's a bit old, not sure if you're even around here anymore but the info is valuable and helpful to me so thank you very much.
I have some strategy questions I'd love to run by you. I am a noob with multi-player but extremely familiar with the game as I've owned it since 98,99, bought several copies of it and still have some in the sealed box. I've played the easy AI on very difficult for years but not very often so as familiar as I am with the game, I have accumulated very few hours of game play as I haven't had much time during my career for play.
However, I'm older now and with lockdowns and all, it has presented more opportunities. Very recently my good friend and I have finally figured out how to multi-player. It never worked before, now it does and a shout out to Praetor Pyro is in order as he has been amazing in helping me out. It's actually a really good community of players that I'm finding.
Okay, strategy. I'm currently in a bit of a dogfight with my buddy. He's very smart. He's about as experienced as I am. I'd say we are both advanced players in terms of game mechanics but again, not a lot of game time so experience is low. He has taken control of Sesswanna sector and the Correlian Sector. He has 3 planets with nothing but production in the Sluis sector (thanks to me taking troops off a planet and gifted him 4 of what were my planets). I have a strong presence in the Dolomar sector, then sector just north of Sluis and am regaining my presence that I had gifted away in Sluis with 3 systems back under control.
I had originally intended to fly towards the Correlian sector and do some damage, along with Sesswanna. Things failed miserably when I took troops off a planet and Sluis turned against me so the Correlian sector assault and diplomatic ambitions were off the table. The Dolomar sector sent in a couple ships to Yaga Minor in Sesswanna, Carrier and Vette, only a few fighters though not full. I had 3 characters aboard and looking to do a bit of Spec Ops. When I arrived at Yaga, I was met with 2 ISD's and a bunch of Tie's. I got hammered, decided to flee. He kept showing up before me at the one planet I had in Sesswanna, forcing me to flee again, to the one planet I had in Correllia sector, and again, was there waiting on me. I was forced out to an outer rim world and pretty much my plans of slowing down his war machine were out the window at this point.
All my efforts have been at trying to regain control of the Sluis and the other 2 sectors where my diplomacy character has been horrible, taking what feels like 50 days or longer to turn to Rebels side. We are now around day 150ish. So I missed my early opportunity to slow him down considerably. Now when I get reports, he's massing troops and ships and those 2 sectors are gone.
What I'm wondering is this: given that he is obviously a strong player, knows the game well enough.....how does one penetrate a sector that has 24/7 ESP going on? I mean, in my example above with Yaga Minor, it was a neutral planet, so he's doing Intel on all of that sector's planets so there is no way I can sneak up on him. What do you do against opponents that have implemented a 24/7 spy ring?
I'm taking what you said as good advice, where you mentioned if your opponent is good, don't bother sending missions in different sectors as the opponent will know about it and just waste time. Are there exceptions to this, times to try it?
In ship combat mode, you mentioned something about adjusting your screen to "medium" or something. I didn't understand. Do you mean the Way points, where you have 3 options to turn them on, are you saying select the medium one not the other two options for way points or were you referring to a "medium" camera angle or something?
If the Imperials are using Carracks, what is a good combat ship the Rebels can use against the Carracks to counter?
I've read a lot of the tips and strategies against the AI and weaker opponents that don't have much experience. I've watched Praetor play with his streams which are always really entertaining, that guy is funny and genius. What I'd love to know, is how to play AGAINST someone that is doing those things. Like, what would Praetor do against his own tactics to counter them because most of you advanced players, there is no sneaking up, no poor mistakes made. I'm not at that level, my friend isn't either, but were' getting closer to that level which makes it very challenging to play against so strategies against ADVANCED players would be a very cool discussion IMO.
Thanks and may the force be with you (Obi Wan voice).
