Hello Guys....

Back at that time I had a lot of fun playing SW: Rebellion.
I was wondering if you guys know modern titles resembling the same or similar game-play and spirit of the great SW:Rebellion.

I am aware that SW:Rebellion was heavily influenced by Master of Orion 2 ( a game that I have never played thou) .

Are games like StarDrive 2 and Star Ruler 2 moved in that direction ?

I am Linux user so the possibilities are going to be reduced in that matter, but i would appreciate your advice.

Thanks in Advance :)

Unfortunately it lacks the personnel layer (which is part of what made Rebellion so great), but Sins of a Solar Empire has a fantastic Star Wars mod called Sins of a Galactic Empire. Give it a try, it's a lot of fun. I just wish I still had my espionage and sabotage missions.

Are you interested only in real time strategy or turn based too?
Sci-fi only?

If you don't mind turn based, then I recommend two games I play a lot.

and

Star Trek Birth of the Federation

To answer your questions - Star Drive 2 is very much a modernised MOO2-esque game. It pretty unashamedly borrows from MOO2 in many areas. Star Rule 2 is quite different and features some pretty unique gameplay. It's still in the same genre to games like Rebellion, MOO2, Birth of the Federation etc, but it plays quite differently. I'd highly recommend checking out a couple of "Let's Play" videos on both on Youtube before deciding which of these would appeal more.

There's a few other options in this turn-based space (or 4X as it's generally known) genre - there's Distant World's Universe - which gets high praise for gameplay but pretty rudimentry graphics and quite expensive at $60USD. There's also Galactic Civilizations 2 (and soon to be released, GalCiv3), that play very much like Civilization in space.

The big one missing from GOG at the moment is Ascendency. It's very much a Good Old Game and a classic, IMHO. Hopefully they bring it out eventually.

Hope that gives you some food for thought. Personally, I've just played through a lot of Rebellion in the last few months and I find myself longing for a modernised version of the game. It really is a lot of fun and quite unique, with the focus on characters etc. I'd love to see a sequel, but I very much doubt that would ever happen unfortunately. :(
