Hello, I'm new here to GOG.com. I purchased Rebellion from ebay and they provided me with a download. I installed the game on my computer and a friends computer so we could play. Unfortunately, we can't when trying via tcp/ip.
I did view some posts to show what ports to open on the router when hosting. It didn't work. I'm allowed the exception for Rebellion in my firewall and I've even placed the computer I was trying to host on in the DMZ outside my LAN. Still couldn't establish a connection.
Just for trial, I still have an old win xp machine and an old rebellion cdrom game. I ran that and the same with my friend on his own end with a windows 7 modification (had the d3dm.dll) so the versions would match up and I could host. When I tried to use the same win 7 mod that my friend used to connect to my cdrom based xp game...I couldn't host.
In conclusion, I seem to only be able to host from my win xp OS running the rebellion game from the original cd.
I'd rather play on my win 7 computer not having to use an old cdrom. I don't know what to do at this point. I read that some of you play on steam and game ranger? I am ignorant about these sites. I know nothing about them. How does that work? Would playing on those sites circumvent the need for running xp?
Any tips for getting the tcp/ip connection to work would greatly be appreciated and some info in regards to these steam/game ranger options.
Thanks
