I've downloaded the game now via the GoG downloading program and my browser and tried installing both of the files but no matter what I do the installation process will not finish. The bar gets to just about there and then it just stops. The Game ads continue to shuffle so i know the program isn't freezing. I left the thing running for 2 hours and it still didn't finish. I'm not sure what else to do to get it to work really.

I've tried running it in compatibility mode for windows 95 and xp. Tried running it as administrator, but nothing will work.

Running windows 7, I've got more than enough specs on my pc to run this game, no issue there.

The installer might be trying to install DirectX at the end. It's a silent process, so the bar will stay static for a bit. Either way, it shouldn't be done with compatibility settings, though it will need Admin privileges. I think the installer grabs those by default.

There should be a setup log in your temp folder. If you don't know where it is, press WinKey+R, type in %TEMP%, and hit OK.
Hey I think I might be able to help.

I was having a similar problem, I left it for 20minutes or so but the installer wasn't moving. I saw this thread and restarted the installation, same thing happened. Then I done this.

I didn't use the GOG downloader btw.

1. Find these files on your computer - Setup-sw-kotor-2.0.0.3 + Setup-sw-kotor-2.0.0.3.bin
2. Right click and go to properties for both files.
3. In 'General' at the bottom it said something like "This file came from another computer and it may be blocked to protect your computer" and had a button saying "Unblock" beside it. Click unblock.
4. Try installing again.

Also using Windows 7. Hope this helps, it installed for me in about 15mins after I done this, but, I honestly have no idea if I just didn't leave it for long enough the first time and it coincidentally installed a bit quicker this time.
So I have attempted every thing i can to make this game finish installing. I've run it as admin, changed all permissions for both files to full access, made sure the files names are correct, clicked check file integrity before installing in install options, run it as compatible with various previous windows versions, nothing works. Left it running for 8 hours while at work and it didn't move a single bit the whole time. I'm really just considering asking for a refund and getting the steam version.

Edit: Ty for the replies y'all

@Gspol I've done this and i don't see a option to unlock anything and i also don't see a 'general' option in the menu that comes up after right clicking either or both items.

@Spinorial I suppose this is possible but I've left it running for hours and it just doesn't finish.

That would be consistent, since the main installer would be waiting on the secondary directX one, without realising that something's wrong. I suggest you contact GOG support (unfortunately, they're a bit slow during the sales). They should be able to help you find some log files that might help them solve this.

HOWEVER, in the meantime, you can try the following: Start the installation and let it reach the point at which it stops doing anything. Leave the installer running and browse to the folder where you instructed the game to be installed. If my theory is correct, all the game files may already be extracted. So, copy the entire folder to another place, then cancel the installation. Now, try running the game from the files you copied. From my own experiments, KotOR is portable, so if all the files are there, it should run without issue (or at least up to whatever issues it might have with your specific system :P)
Assuming you are trying to use GOG Galaxy the easiest solution is go around it. Go to gog.com, login, find the game in your library then go to "Download Offline Backup Game Installers" There you can download the file direct, it's a bit old school but worked for me.
2023, and still the same stupid thing...
Trying to reinstall CP 2077, stuck at "Finalizing" (or whatever the translation in English is) for almost 30 minutes...
Same for patches, THERE IS NOTHING TO FINALIZE OR WHATEVER.
All other game launchers are working fine, only this one is bad !

Could not even launch CP 2077 (through Galaxy) before I tried to reinstall it...

Stop trying to find excuses when there is NONE as after 3 years everything should work as intended.

GOG Galaxy is sh*t, and of story.
