Hi, after almost an hour of struggle trying to make this game work on widescreen, I decided to come here to ask for some help as some people might have encountered the same issue I'm having.
So I installed KOTOR 2 at last, with the TSLRCMETC mod for the ultimate experience but to my disapointment, the mod doesn't have a widescreen support. I went online searching for a fix and found two of them (uniws and flawless widescreen). For any of these to work you do need to set up the resolution for 1280x960 prior to applying the fix. Trouble is there is no such resolution available to choose. The only one I'm having are 800x600, 1024x768, 1024x768 (70hz) and 1280x1024.
At first I thought the TSLRCM did some resolution changes but after reinstalling the game on vanilla I'm having the very same problem.

Is it possible with the GOG version to have widescreen support ?

Also, I noticed the soft shadow option is grayed-out, it is normal that I can't activate it? (RX 580)

Try the patch from this post:

https://www.gog.com/forum/star_wars_knights_of_the_old_republic_series/i_need_a_clear_answer_steam_vs_gog_version_both_games/post11

Also soft shadows has long been known to cause crashing in the Kotor games on modern GPU's (Both AMD and Nvidia). Soft Shadows and Frame Buffer Effects in Kotor 1 at least. I can't remember the specifics for Kotor 2 though. But if it's greyed out, consider it as probably having a good reason behind it.

So this patch allows more resolution choice such as the 1280x960 that is lacking by default in the GOG version? I need this resolution only to use the wide screen patch that requires it. I learned the hard way that the frame buffer had to be turned off as it crashed my game after I carefully created a new character profile.

Does this patch allows for gamepad support such as the Steam version of the game? I already installed a huge patch but it didn't fixed any of this. If I would have known that the Steam version supported controller support by default (something I just learned) I would have bought that one in a heart beat as I've been playing the first KOTOR on my xbox in the days and I really liked it.

I'll try your patch nevertheless in hoping I now have the required resolution for widescreen. Thanks for the reply.

This patch basically brings the GOG version in line with the Steam version. I don't remember all the features it adds but I do remember that modern resolutions for modern monitors (including widescreen) was one of them. I don't know about gamepad support as I never used gamepads for any of the Kotor games, but definitely give it a try. Post here if your gamepad works as that would be interesting. Been wanting to get my partner to try the Kotor games, but she doesn't like mouse and keyboard. So gamepad support would definitely make her day.

I couldn't download the patch with Firefox for some reason on google drive but with Chrome it worked. Windows 10's bit defender flagged it as a virus but once that disabled I've been able to install it. There is no need to find the 1280x960 so I can launch a widescreen program as your patch already has widescreen included so I was pleasantly surprised but the cherry on cake is that my Xbone controller works right away with this patch which is fantastic!

Thank you very much sir !

Rep+1

The controller support is obviously not as pratical as keyboard+mouse but for couch-play it's great. I always had a grudge for Bioware for not having this option on KOTOR & Mass Effect series on PC while the same games were available on consoles.

No problem man. Glad it worked for you. And thanks for confirming the controller works and the rep. I really appreciate it.

Yeah, my partner watched me play the entire Mass Effect trilogy a few years ago and absolutely fell in love with it. (Mordin is her favorite) I actually found it hilarious when she got into it. I was starting to play it and she tells me to put it on the big screen and sit next to her. She's goes, I'll watch it here or there, I'm not really interested. I just want you close. So I do and she has her phone on in front of her so she can read the news. I see her pause reading to watch a story bit at one point. Then 2 hours later I notice she's still watching everything I'm doing. Her phone is still in her hand and had long since turned off, but she never noticed. Lol, from that point I knew she was getting into it. What I didn't expect was how much so, because for the next few weeks after that, she woke me up every day telling me to get the game on because she wanted to know what happened next. She did that every day until we finished all three games including all DLC. It was awesome!

She's wanted to do a full run through of the games herself ever since, but the gamepad issue is a sticking point for her. I am still looking into some mods to add proper controller support for the trilogy, but I'm holding off for a bit to see if the rumors of EA releasing a remastered version of the Trilogy are true. If they do, I'm hoping they will add controller support for the PC versions of the games.

Nice story! About the gamepad, I managed to play the first Mass Effect last year with a gamepad patch I found on nexusmods. Found it!: https://www.nexusmods.com/masseffect/mods/60/
Problem I had with this mod is that I couldn't play with a graphical overhaul mod & this mod along but if you don't mind the vanilla version (which is still pretty decent imo) this is a great way to play it on the couch.

I remember 10 years ago loving ME2 but since I replayed through the first one last year, I find the 2nd game too much action oriented. I really loved the slower combat of the first game which was more similar to the KOTOR series. A similar thing apparently happened with Dragon Age 2 being more console oriented.
