My version of Jedi Outcast won't start. I have re-downloaded/re-installed it a few times and still nothing. When I start the game the console pops up and displays the following message:

JK2: v1.03 win-x86 May 3 2002

Running in restricted demo mode.

Couldn't load default.cfg

What's interesting is that multiplayer seems to work just fine, only the singleplayer won't work. The multiplayer version is 1.04 while the singleplayer version is 1.03. Also I have this game on Steam and out of curiosity I installed it and it ran without any problems at all. However I noticed that Steam version had a file in the base folder (located in the GameData folder) called jk2config.cfg which I am assuming is the required file for the singleplayer. The GOG version did not have this file and while I did copy and paste it into the GOG version, it did not fix the problem. Does anyone have a solution or idea on how to fix this?

Note: I am not running any mods, my drivers are up to date and my OS is Windows 7. The Steam version that works is also the same version as the GOG one.
Somehow the game can't access the assets*.pk3 archives in the base folder. You could compare these files with the steam ones and see if they have the same size. If not, then the cause is likely a corrupted installation/download. Maybe it works then, if you copy the files from the steam version to the gog version.

The jk2config.cfg gets created after the first proper start of the game. Thats the reason you haven't found it.
I have tried to copy the pk3 files from the Steam version to GOG but it still did not work. The pk3 files however are exactly the same size as the ones in Steam version.

Try this, i have win 8.1 and intel integrated video, and this was the only fix for me:

Umm... GOG won't let me post links...so lame: go to youtube and search:

Jedi Academy Crash Fix by The Shadowstorme

watch?v=eDQzrzr6IVA

and search for "gldirect download" on google or sourceforge.

unzip this file from sourceforge: \gldirect5_opensource.zip\gldirect5\bin\release\opengl32.dll

Put it into the "GameData" folder the game path, in my case: C:\Games\Star Wars Jedi Knight II - Jedi Outcast\GameData

Hope this helps, see the attached image for an example.

My version failed to load to start with also. I have a W10 laptop, and fairly basic too, but this fix made it work for me too - the opengl32.dll file copy thing
