I received an email- they were nice about it, but I think GoG would need to meet with them to make something even possible. :(

Message starts:

First thank you for buying and supporting our game, it really means a lot to us.

Unfortunately there are no plans to update the GOG or Retail version of the game. This would take more time, thus more money and more loops to jump through with getting it all cleared and submitted. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Good post to remind me of not buying games anymore and just pirate them instead, thanks.
Well, what do you expect from GOG at this point, anyway; they just don't care anymore.

This game has been updated on Steam every year, for last 2-3 years, once a year and now finally when they updated to 64-bit, game is working without any problems and workarounds; at least for me, on Win 10, been playing it for few days now, again!

E.g. Latest update for another older game, that still gets updates on Steam, Another World, was late to GOG for almost year and a half!

As an owner of the original physical release I find it disappointing that they didn't at least make a patch for this version.

I just came here to look for this as soon as I heard. Gog used to be GREAT at patching. What on earth happened?
And is there some place we can go get it to MANUALLY add it? I use the stand alone installer anyhow, not the Gog Galaxies thing.

Maybe if we put it on the Wishlist and enough of us keep pushing they'll change their minds and realize its worth it. After all, what is the point of them carrying it at all now if STEAM is the only one with the updated version? What reason will new buyers have to come here for it?

So, the GOG and Steam versions are functionally different. The GOG version only supports multiplayer via LAN as the original multiplayer servers are now gone. The Steam version, however, was updated to incorporate Steamworks multiplayer and Steam Workshop support, via a number of exclusive patches from 2017 onwards (which also included some performance improvements), and dropped the LAN play in the process.

The new 64-bit patch was created for the Steamworks version, and so Petroglyph are saying that they would need to spend more time and money to build a 64-bit version for GOG, and to incorporate the other changes they've made over the years to the Steam version.

Yes, it sucks, as I firmly believe that it shouldn't matter what store you use to buy a game, the support you receive for the game should be the same regardless. But with GOG providing a DRM free version, and Steam using Steamworks, with different resulting functionality, it makes sense that they would need to double up on their work to bring performance patches to both platforms.
Thing is they made their money from the retail version to begin with, it doesn't make sense why they would betray people who own that version and variants of it like this.

+1 for this too. I'm lucky that I bought the steam version as part of a bundle but incidents like this don't make DRM free look good and kind of negates the point of having DRM free in the first place and can't be nice for those who only have the GOG version. I personally would feel robbed if I had to go and buy another copy JUST to get a patch.

Yes, and food for thought to us GOG lovers I would not buy this game on GOG. The old fixes do not work anymore, at least not now for me. I purchased the Steam version of EAW Gold Pack and runs like butter.
+1. As a software developer myself, I'd feel ashamed withholding updates from part of my customers -- honestly, we would not be able to get away with it. I don't understand how Petroglyph can be this indifferent. GOG should be doing something about this, in my opinion.
Glad I saw this, was just about to buy the game but changed my mind. Thanks guys.
