Hi fmied,

it IS the CD-version with all patches.

And unlike the CD version you do not need to have the CD in the drive, so, yes it has advantages ;)
Another advantage, you have all supported languages included, unlike the CD-version, so you can just use any supported language without trying to find a language pack (our of memory, English, German, French and Spanish).
This makes it also easier for mod-support I found. (just change the bat-file to another language ;) )

I apologize for restarting an old thread, however I had this question as well. I also wondered about patches for the game as I understand there was a as still unpatched 2 GB memory cap glitch that causes the game to eventually crash at some point. Having said that I wondered if the GOG team has addressed that? Anyone know?

I have seen it stated the Steam version has new patches?? And if true why not GOG?

I use the CD version of Empire at War (not gold), last patch was 2006 for XP. Runs on Windows 10 ok, but still crashes. I hate to buy a game that ultimately will do the same thing, plus I already own it, not the same version mind you.

As for the 2 GB memory cap, try this: https://www.gamefront.com/games/empire-at-war/file/star-wars-empire-at-war-2gb-ram-mp-lobby-fix

no, the gog version is not better. the disc version can use dedicated gpus like gt 630m and gtx 770m while the gog version can not.
