I run Windows 10 with a Nvidia 2070, i7 4770, 24GB ram

I just bought this game and it started out great but now I'm getting huge frame drops during battles and in space that are ruining the game. The game will randomly slow down to random fps (9, 14, etc.) during combat and sometimes to 0 fps when I destroy buildings or big ships get destroyed.

+ I tried running RTSS but it's frame drops, not peaks and valleys
+ I tried running in multiple compatibility modes (Win 98/ME, Win XP, etc.)
+ I tried affinity mode with 1 core and that seemed to help for a while
+ I tried reducing the resolution and the graphic quality but nothing

Is there anything else I can try?

I'm not sure if this is included in the GOG release, but you can try applying the official RAM fix. https://www.gamefront.com/games/empire-at-war/file/star-wars-empire-at-war-2gb-ram-mp-lobby-fix

Lukin86: no fix the problem

The solution is as Lukin86 mentioned in his other post. Simply rename the sweaw.exe to swfoc.exe fixed the issue (read his other post for explanation)

Load times zip by and no more lag, at least in the 15 minutes I just played which included space and land battles. I'll check it out more extensively later.
Does anyone know why exactly this fix works? Just wondering about to try and see if it fixes my issues.
Sorry, EAW-specific RAM fix: http://static.dolimg.com/mh_netstorage/lucasfilm/patches/pc/EAW_RAM_MPLobby_update.exe

No compatible with gog version
Thank you! Was about to ask for a refund but this completely fixed it for me. Was totally unplayable before. Now I run on max graphics settings.
Posting it here since google brought me to this thread.

It worked for me too!!!

Crazy but it does ... tried some tricks like cpu affinity but nothing but this rename-fix helped ^^
