By default the game made me use a VERY low resolution and I could hardly see the enemies from far away, so in the dosbox_DF.conf I set to my desktop's: "fullresolution=1920x1080".
The problem is that the screen became very small with very large black borders. I tried in 1024x720 too but it just made the borders smaller.
It's also worth noting that using any scaler aside of "2xsai" (that sucks in my opinion) makes the DOS emulator crash
I hope some of you know a fix for this issue. Thanks in advice!

Try changing 'output' to something else, like 'overlay'. I also use fullresolution=desktop and scaler=normal3x. But, no matter what you change it to, the original DOS in-game resolution can't be changed so you will still have a difficult time making out enemies at long distances.
