Hi, I'm playing DF on Hard and in Mission 10 I can't avoid the blast of mines behind doors. I have seen some gameplay video on youtube where the player supposedly played on hard, and he managed to open the door, see the mines, and quickly runnning toward it, activating it, and running away.
I can't because as soon as I open the door, the mines blast off.
Furthermore, the Guide downloaded with the games suggest to walk right up the doors o trigger the mines behind it before opening it. In my case, this does not happen: as I said before, the mines explode just when dhe doors are opened. Can it be some kind of problem linked to the speed of modern computers (like the ice glitch)? Has anybody played the mission on hard with modern pc?
P.S: I am not using Dark Forces XL. Would it be helpful?
Thanks in advance and forgive my English.

Have you tried throwing a thermal detonator (grenade) at the door to see if it blows up the mines on the other side?

Months ago, I did beat the game on Hard and I don't remember having that problem with mines. I played with DarkXL, though, so, yes, it might not be an issue in that. Unfortunately, it uses a different savegame format than the original, DOS version of the game, so you can't just pick up where you saved in that version. Here, I'll upload my DarkXL save file with all levels unlocked:

Simply copy it to your "DarkXL" folder... not where darkxl.exe is, but the folder under that folder, so that it's in the same folder as darkxl.cfg, for example.

Note, however, that finishing the game in DarkXL requires a couple of simple workarounds for bugs. This guide tells you how:

Also, FYI, for secondary fire, use the 'R' key, which isn't listed in the game's key configuration.

I suppose you are playing DF1 using DOSBox. Perhaps it is a problem with the "cycles" setting. When I played the Steam version I didn't encounter this issue, but in the ice level I couldn't move on the ice at all without the ice cleats, which I thought was a feature but actually isn't intended. That was also caused by an unideal cycles setting.
In-game you can change the amount of cycles by pressing CTRL+F11 (decrease) or CTRL+F12 (increase). Just experiment around a bit with it to see if it changes anything. You may want to play the game in windowed mode for this (Alt+Enter) to see the DOSBox console which shows exactly how many cycles are currently set when pressing the corresponding keys. This way you can, if it does fix the problem, find the sweet spot for your computer. I don't think there is a general "ideal" cycles setting. Mostly the cycles will be automatically controlled by DOSBox, but I've had it malfunction in quite a few games already.

Like I said this is just speculation, but from your description it definitely sounds like a timing issue and the cycles in DOSBox are all I know which influence timing and thus some internal calculations of the games, even if it otherwise doesn't run too fast or too slow.

I really enjoyed playing DF1 on Hard, it was a really nice difficulty, except for those wretched Kell dragons. Only after I've finished the game on Medium did I go back to beat that level and the rest on Hard. Also, I think while DarkXL seems much more modern, I had a lot more fun with the DOS version, especially thanks to the auto-aiming. While I would never enable that in modern games, old shooters like this one just feel better to me that way.

And just another recommendation. If you aren't already using it, I definitely recommend mapping looking up and down, secondary fire as well as weapon changing to the mouse using GlovePIE: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=286364447

Thanks. I tried throwing grenades but it did'nt work in that level (but it worked on the same situation at the start of mission 13).
I managed to get past the mines on mission 10 by learning their postion by trial and error and then going close to the door, and while pushing the run button, simultaneously hitting back and enter to opend the door: I just got far enough to avoid the explosion.

I agree that probably editing with GlovePie would have made the playthrough easier and more confortable. Now I'm on the last misison, but I'll remember it for the next old similar fps.
