Hey there!
I'm an old Battlefront player who was really active between 2010 and 2015. I am glad that GOG brought Battlefront back to life.
But at the moment, the game is simply unusable. Connection errors are just one problem.
The main issue is the lack of a dedicated server software. There have been multiple (and one official) versions of this software wich can still be found online but cannot connect to the master servers at GOG/Steam.
In the "old days" they were used on dedicated Windows Root servers and provided lag free games up to 64 players.

GOG/Steam, please bring this software back so we (as former battlefront enthusiasts and pros) can start enjoying the game again for a while or even bring it back to some kind of life.

This.

Myself and other dedicated server hosts would desperately like some word from GOG regarding new dedicated server software or support for the old software. As a game, BF2 RELIES on dedicated servers for effective multiplayer gameplay, the way servers work in the game (everything is server side) means that running a playable server from your home is impossible for the vast majority of consumer internet connections.

Myself and and a few others already have several rented dedicated servers that we would love to move over to the new master server asap, and could do so within a few hours of getting software support, right now the online servers are unplayable, with the exception of the host most players will have 250+ ping.

Whilst I am really greatful for GOG to taking this on, please, please do not half-ass it. Without dedicated support you've killed multiplayer, as the servers will be unplayable and the other platforms are now unusable for steam and GOG players.

This is what would make BF2 great again

Tons of people will grab this game for netplay and tons more will grab it if dedicated servers are re-added. This is very exciting, thanks for resurrecting this game!

Supporting this great idea !
I agree with this great idea! And thank you for bringing back the multiplayer feature in the first place.

If you can get the Server Manager working thats on ModDB to connect to your masterservers thatd be great!

Ill throw up a Variety of different gamemode 64 slot servers right away!
please! we need this :)
GOG/Disney,

We would need to update the old Gamespy DNS server entries to the new GOG/Disney DNS so we can point our software to connect there so it will be visible on internet.

The LAN works because you host this on your own local network and I see it on list, although it says on my server manager I can join (Non Team) but it is timing out while I am trying to join and then freezes my application after 60 seconds.

Assuming we can update the server manager software by Kevin Lockett from BlackOPs from 2005, either by updating a script or completely having a new BattlefrontII.exe file (which Gameranger and Gamemaster had) which has the new DNS entries already coded, we can also open specific ports to ping.

Ping (ICMP): UDP Port 3658 (default) - Add a port forwarding rule on your router & would allow for faster join time
Remotely manage your server: TCP Port 3558 (default) - Add a port forwarding rule on your router

*Make sure to add these rules to your local IP address (ex: 192.168.0.5) of the machine your hosting the server manager on.

Also, when you launch the application as well as the BattlefrontII.exe, you will want to add firewall exceptions to your windows firewall if you have it enabled so that won't prevent players from joining.

This would be great because I have old mods from many years ago.

I would also like something useful like this.
I too would like to have a dedicated server software. My VPS is already waiting for it :)
