I have Windows 8.1 and the GOG copy of SWBF2, and I can't seem to get the mod working. Every time I enter instant action, it says "Star Wars Battlefront Republic Commando" in the bottom left hand corner, but that seems to be the only part of the mod that works for me. There is no option to select Republic commando in the era selection. I followed all the read me txt files, but I only get that result at the moment.

I downloaded v1.4 of the mod from moddb.com (sorry can't post links)

Then I downloaded the unofficial v1.3patch from a youtuber called BattlefrontJDgamer.
