running on a crt, the game automatically goes into 1980x1080, as I cannot change it down by plugging another monitor in, is there a .ini file I can change it

I don't understand. There is a rez auto detect under video options in the menu. You could try Alt-Enter to go window mode if you can't see the options. Thay may give you the ability to see everything.
