Has anyone had any luck getting this to run on the Steam Deck? After adding it as a non steam game on my steam deck. It seems to be stuck on the splash screen when I run it in game mode. However, when I run it in desktop mode (from the steam deck) it loads like normal. Just curious if there is a way around this.

Thanks

Sounds like you're further along than me. I've launched it from desktop mode and get windowed splash videos and just when I think it's going to head into the main menu, I get an upside down LCARS menu with nothing clickable (that's not entirely true--I can hear menu selections being made using arrow keys or mouse, but it doesn't do anything); I have to force-close Heroic Launcher at that point. I've tried Proton 6.3 and 7.0, but that pretty much taps out my expertise at using the Deck (I've only had it for a few days).

I'm anxious to see if anyone else has better luck!

I'm having the same issue. Tried running with Proton 7.04, Proton Experimental, Proton GE 7.30, and Bottles, and all of them have the same upside-down / bugged LCARS and invisible menu. Haven't tried Lutris.

I can hear the menu options by moving the mouse around and was able to launch the tutorial mode by blindly hitting buttons, but even in-game doesn't render at all (I can just hear Tuvok speaking).

strubdog, I'd be curious to see your efconfig.cfg file since you said you got it to work in desktop mode. I haven't had any such luck.

Interestingly, I edited the efconfig.cfg file to change seta r_ignoreGLErrors to "0", and the game crashed at the menu with the error "RE_BeginFrame() - glGetError() failed (0x506)!", which according to the OpenGL documentation is the error GL_INVALID_FRAMEBUFFER_OPERATION. Somehow the game is trying to use an incomplete framebuffer it seems.

This probably points to a driver issue but I don't know how to fix it.
Yeah, I was able to play in desktop mode at first but haven't been able to since. I'm always stuck on the LCARs screen. I'll try your suggestions when I get a new hub. I wish non-steam games were allowed on prontondb. I'm sure that community could be able to find a solution.

That's the exact same problem that happened to me trying to play it on my laptop. Just freezes at the LCARS Screen.
I just tried again after about a week or two of not playing it. It starts up fine in desktop mode. I'm able to get past the LCARs screen. Unfortunately, problem still persists in gaming mode. I get a weird funky LCARs screen and it seems to freeze but with various sounds in the background. I'm guess the game doesn't some sort of weird loading with LCARs that prevents it from working in gaming mode.

If you can run it in desktop mode, there might be a way to get it working in gaming mode. Could you post your efconfig.cfg file? And what are you using to launch the game in desktop mode?
I was toying with the settings and cfg file for both elite force 1 and 2 over the past days. Holomatch got a native linux port (last outpost) that works great but for the campaign (gog) I only managed to have an upside down picture or rotated right on the small screen :( Seems ok on a monitor. If you find a way, let us know.
Okay so after spending more time on it, I finally succeed to make EF1 and 2 run full screen on the deck via desktop mode but not via Steam OS. Sadly in desktop, the deck inputs and joysticks does not work so you are forced to use a M&KB which remove the purpose. And for some reasons EF1 is also upside down, otherwise it runs well.

Anyway, I surrender as I spent the last 2 days trying to make them work properly. A workaround that works:
The PS2 version seems to run well and got auto aim. While it’s not the best version and it’s missing content (loading can be a bit long too) it works well in handled mode on the deck.

Thanks for all your effort. I wonder if a Steam controller could bridge the gap between the M&KB controls. What did you have to do to actually get the games RUNNING in desktop mode?

I do not have a Steam controller but I would say it is possible.
I created a zip file with the config files needed to run the game at 1080p in desktop mode but you will need to toggle some settings in litrus. Be sure to launch Elite force via litrus. All the instructions needed are in the ReadMe text file.

Hopefully this should work for you as it did for me.

BIG thanks for all your efforts to date. I have a Steam Controller but haven't tried linking it up with the Steam Deck just yet (not even sure how at the moment, I'm assuming desktop mode and the dongle using a hub or USB-C to USB-A adapter). I will need to go spelunking into the ReadMe and see if I can get things moving. I'll report back if I'm able to get things running.

Thanks again!

I added it as a "non-steam game" in steam. I can open it in the steam client from within desktop mode.

"efconfig.cfg" attached

Hey guys. I managed to have it running in 16/9 in desktop mode without issues. You need to install the files Hor+ available here: www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Star_Trek:_Voyager_-_Elite_Force

They are files for extra wide monitors and for 4k and more, but I believe the game will just crash above that resolution, but you can try. You will still need to do the steps I wrote in Lutris, so the game can run.

Still no solution for gaming mode sadly, but hey I managed to run DS9 the fallen and bridge commander in gaming mode, so it's not that bad :D
So good news, I managed to play via gaming mode and in portable Elite force 1 & 2.

Basically use the Widescreen and resolution files mentioned previously (on the pc wiki etc.). Be sur to use lutris to install and run the game from your GOG account.
Then, add Lutris to your steam library via desktop mode.
Launch the client via steam gaming mode (and in portable mode) once done, just click on EF1 or EF2 and enjoy! You can even use community layout. In fact, I created one for Elite force 1 and 2 with an inventory menu for the left touch pad. They actually looks really good on the small screen like most old games. Set phasers ro frag!
