Very strange, i bought this today thinking it would be cool to play a more advanced version of starfleet command of which i am a die hard veteran, i played it like crazy around the millennium and the years after it. its one of the last games i bought full price on a disk.
I played 2 with some pleasure but its broken dynaverse that took ages to make a move in and often just stopped developing which wasnt really good. I remember playing orion pirates which was interesting.. only issue was the strange superweapons that weren't canon and the weird ISC faction (which had cool ships and weapons tho so i forgave their weirdness)
But this sfc3 seems to be an unpolished mess. Especially how the power system is dumbed down, or rather made untransparent. I cant see how much i have to reduce throttle to have my weapons charge optimally, cant see how much is going into my shields.. all i have is relative sliders between 2 weapon types and my shields, but i cant see how much power or even % the sliders represent. Its completely un-star trek to not have a scotty, laforge or be'lanna telling you "i can give you full impulse but i'll have to take the photons offline ma'am" (or at least have that emulated by seeing the numbers in an interface and knowing how much everything needs and where it is going.)
instead you have to guess at how much power everything uses. Its crazy, this game seems like a downgrade from the first one.
I am actually, for the first time ever, thinking of refunding a game because its just not enjoyable when it feels like an arcade and not like an actual starship simulator.
