Hello gang,
With fear and trepidation, I picked this game up tonight, fully expecting it to not work, based on many of the comments I've read here.
However, I've come to learn that sometimes you just have to experience something for yourself if the risk is minimal.
6.00 is minimal in my opinion.
At first, running it with the graphics settings set to my primary driver and 1280 resolution, it would crash upon entering the gameplay itself.
So, I set the game's graphics to run in software mode, which maxes out at 800x600 and the game runs beautifully. Upon first launching the game at this resolution, I fully expected it to be horribly ugly, but it actually looks OK.
Granted, it is dated, but you can't buy a game this old and expect cutting edge graphics. I'm very happy with my purchase, as the gameplay is engaging and fun.
Well done GOG.
CORRECTION:
I had just finished posting this when I found a thread explaining how to get the game running at the highest resolution using my primary driver. The game is much crisper and runs beautifully. Here are the settings that worked for me:
I used Primary Driver set at 1280 for my main display, not software as listed above. Compatibility mode set to Windows XP (Service Pack 3) for SFC.exe and the async=0 in the sfc.ini.
Hopefully you'll find this helpful!
