Just picked up the game; anybody know what the Game Speed setting under Controls does?

Doesn't seem to visually affect the speed or anything.
Unless it affects how much damage is give/taken, etc. (?)

i know this is an old post but it solved my problem. Game speed apparently sets the speed of action in the game. It affects the turning rate of your ship as well as the speed at witch your enemies operate. It helped me with finishing the mission as my ship was being destroyed in seconds at the lowest difficulty setting.

The game speed setting is not mentioned in the manual as far as I can tell.

Game speed was added either in a patch or subsequent release of the game. It absolutely wasn't in the CD version I had as a kid because the combat being too fast bugged me a lot even then. I guess that's why there's no mention of it in the game manual.
