If you don't use the GOG Release and can't access the console in game, create a shortcut or use the existing
one that links to the ef2 executable and add the following startparameter in the "target" textfield:
+set ui_console 1

The ingame console allows you to activate cheats and enter
setting and game commands while in game.

The Key to Access the console depends on your Keyboard Layout and
Language. Please try the following Keys while you are in the main Menu of
the game: ^ , °, ², ³, @, <, ~ or '

You can paste text into the console by clicking the middle mouse button while the console is open and in focus.
