Armada 2 is now availalbe on gog. i still have the cd.

There are mods (especially FleetOps sub-mods) that
* enhance graphics
* make the game multiplayer stable (if you stick to specific maps)
* You can play multiplayer online via the free hamatchi program (A2 fleet ops community uses it)
* balanced gameplay
