Has anyone who owned this tried playing with players on Steam? I'm not quite sure how the multiplayer works in this game, so I'm curious to know if I'd be able to play with my friends on Steam...

Yes, it should work just fine.

I'm not sure Invite Player works though on the GOG copy. The Steam API is not present in it so the necessary functions would not be available.

I'm thinking you're probably right, given what I know of how the MP is set up. I'm just hoping that someone on the forums has actually done it successfully.

Just to close this one out, I got a copy gifted to me and was successful at playing over the internet with my friends who own Steam copies.
