When I launch the game and interact with any sentient species they're completely mute. I have to read the conversation. Is there any way to turn on the voice over?

Star Control 2 for DOS was a floppy only game, too small for fully voice-acted dialogue. The only version of SC2, that I'm aware of, with recorded dialogue was the 3DO version. This version is playable now on modern machines through Ur-Quan Masters which is a freeware version of Star Control 2 (they changed the name to avoid legal issues).

You can download those files here. Grab the installer and uqm files in order to install it.

However you're going to essentially have two different versions of Star Control 2 installed. So there's no need to use the gog version, which is inferior both graphically and audibly, but it's there if you just want the nostalgia.

Hope this helps

Cool!

In the UQM/0.7 directory I see these files dated 2011-07 thru 2013-2
uqm-0.7.0-1-installer.exe
voice.uqm
content.uqm
3domusic.uqm

and in the UQM Remix Packs I see these folders dated 2011-07 thru 2013-2
UQM Remix Pack 4
UQM Remix Pack 3
UQM Remix Pack 2
UQM Remix Pack 1

Do I want ALL of these from both folders? Are the Remixes optional?

Thanks!

The remixed music is optional, yes. Here another + for playing The Ur-Quan Masters.

Thanks for chiming in for me Themken. I haven't had a chance to log back in and check.

Hope all is going well with your installation fret_man!
