That curiously close to exactly the opposite of the suggestion made by the actual lawyer who runs the YouTube channel YouTuberLaw: https://youtu.be/5RuLAtF9f6E?t=1190. The problem with your version is that there is almost no evidence that Stardock actually bought more than the most superficial smattering of rights. So giving them the full rights is frankly nonsense, since there are multiple contracts extant which clearly show that P&F had many rights - and most of the most important ones, like copyrights - reverted to them years ago.

smrtgi19: but frankly P&F do not have the resources to tie this up in court, I mean are they going to get help from activision or Toys for bob, I mean come on, this can only end badly because even if P&F win, they will have no resources to make Ghosts of the Precursors since Stardock will refuse to pay anything, and keep it going indefinitely until they go under and pass the torch to others. P&F will have to leave their old ip behind and make a spiritual successor if they want to survive, they are holding on to something we all know how we want it to continue, the arc is going in a circle. Similar to Descent Interplay and Parallax, something will give, mind you if stardock owns the license, they may make Star control Origins horrible and worse so no one buys it and make stardock give royalties to P&F. Brand name is worth more than copyright, because copyright does not advance science, trademarks and patents do, because facts are not copyrightable, we copyright fantasy which anyone can make up. Stardock may make an application called star control for their windowblinds and that is legal. no one will win, everyone looses, people cant play star control anymore, and the franchise is tainted, unless... P&F join stardock which will never happen because they are competitors. This is why IP is so messed up if both parties own part of the IP, like System Shock, for years it was in limbo, star control will be in legal limbo for years. Add to that no emu sites, and now worse we can only buy used games which frankly may not work anymore, and piracy is almost gone now since its too much work to pirate games since they are drm free on gog say, its the end of an era. hell they may make a spiritual successor through toys for bob and activision. I assume theres no reply so in this case I am calling it spot on, either Stardock will get the full IP or P&F, or both if they pay back royalties. Hum dealer hum, so goodnight everybody. P&F will develop their own game and Stardock will develop their own game.
Except Stardock is helping scalpers by blocking this off. No way in Hell am I buying Origins, I want to try the originals now my avenue is blocked except by SCUM on eBay. edit::scratch that, I have it but my complaint still stands.
This does remind me why I HATE right's issues...it's why the US never got a DVD of "Are You Afraid Of the Dark?".

This reminds me, is there a thread listing all the games that have left GOG? Not ones that have come back obviously.
