Does anyone know if the gog's version of Shadow of Chernobyl has the stuttering issue fixed? I tried playing a couple of years ago with a 7870 and it stuttered like hell on the steam version.

By stuttering do you mean the sound or the visuals?!
Visuals.
That's a problem inherent with the X-ray engine, you can't "fix" it. Unless of course they rewrite the engine from scratch or move to a new one. It probably has a lot to do with AI routines and the chaotic way in which things aren't scripted.

The original X-ray was probably used in Codename: Outbreak, before Stalker. I'm surprised they even managed to implement DX11 features. Not even the Source engine had that.
A bit late to the party, but this might help:
---------------------------------------------
1. Download RadeonPro
2. Start RadeonPro -> Add profile -> Find the XR_3DA.exe in your STALKER/bin directory and then click on "Open"
3. Go to the Advanced tab
4. Set Flip Queue Size to 1
5. Make sure RadeonPro IS running while Starting the game.
--------------------------------------------

I hope this helps.

No problem. Happy hunting! :-)
For those with an NVIDIA card, stuttering can be fixed by setting the maximum pre-rendered frames in the control panel's manage 3D settings to one.

sorry for being 5 years late but, are you refering to stalker as the "unplayable game" or not? this might not even get an answer but its still worth a shot
