I installed STALKER 2 and have been playing and enjoying it.
I've downloaded all three of the patches released for STALKER 2.
All three say "This patches does not support your version of the game lease download a new installer".
What is going on?
I do not use the "Galaxy" app.

So apparently there was as version 436 released that is - as far as I understood - incompatible with any of the update patches. If you don't want to install Galaxy you will need to reinstall the game from scratch using the latest 40 install files...
Amazing. Unfortunately that didn't seem to do anything for me.

I installed this version of the installer, which was from launch-day:
setup_s.t.a.l.k.e.r._2_heart_of_chornobyl_436_(77912)

Then I tried installing any of these:
patch_s.t.a.l.k.e.r._2_heart_of_chornobyl_424_(77893)_to_1.0.523_(78128)
patch_s.t.a.l.k.e.r._2_heart_of_chornobyl_1.0.523_(78128)_to_1.0.542_(78148)
patch_s.t.a.l.k.e.r._2_heart_of_chornobyl_1.0.542_(78148)_to_1.0.3_(78227)

All of which say "not for this version", etc.

To be sure, I uninstalled and reinstalled the main game again, and then installed the preorder bonus with this filename:
setup_s.t.a.l.k.e.r._2_heart_of_chornobyl_-_pre-order_bonus_436_(77912)

And then tried installing any of the 3 patches, and received the same information.

It seems like the game is not updateable?
It sounds like you uninstalled and then reinstalled the ver436 build, that will not work. The ver436 installer cannot be patched, so you need to do a fresh install with any of the packages that got posted later after launch day (77893, 78128, 78148, 78227). This also means you will need to use new extra content installers that match whichever new base game installer you end up using.

you need to uninstall, REDOWNLOAD the 40 files (which will be 1.0.3 already) and reinstall them :(
Yeah, they provided a patch that targets a version of the game that was never released as an offline installer. The first offline installer, released on launch day, was 436 and the patch is looking for version 424. So the only solution is to redownload the full game.

Awesome; thank you all for your advice.
It seems everyone knows how weird the GOG versioning system is, so I won't complain about that, but I really appreciate you all pointing me in the right direction.
All the links for downloading the initial installer are dead for me now. GOG's pretty poor at this already but this is silly.
