Why are the version numbers so confusing? I had my game on 1.0.504, the next version was 1.0.3 for whatever reason but i could patch it without problems. Now after the big 1.1 update a few days ago I wanted to download the patch only to see that the available patches are "1.1 to 1.0.728" (what???) and the older "1.0.542 to 1.0.3". So no way to go up from my 1.0.3 version.

Okay, looks like i need to download the whole game again, but when i download the offline installer files with the tag "1.1.2" on the game page I actually get the "1.0.728" installer files. So it looks like this is the latest version, but then why is there a patch to go from 1.1 to 1.0.728?

I don't mind if GOG has different version numbers than Steam, but please stick to a consistent naming convention. What you are doing right now is confusing as hell.

It looks like 1.1.2 for GoG is 1.0.728. I downloaded both offline installers. One from the website and one from Galaxy and they both said 1.1.2 when I downloaded them but, both said version 1.0.728 after they were installed. Yes it would be nice to have some clarification for this. Specially since this game takes eons to re-install.
but
May sound a simple question apart from the definite confusion of numbering. There are many patches and I assume the latest 1.1.2 to 1.0.738 I see is the only one to load. But is it.. Gog. is not clear on this. Do I need to load all 7 patches from the first as one used to I recall. Those who do not want Galaxy ( that I tried) or the cloud WHICH IS NOT AS SAFE AS SOME SAY. plus problems deleting it, DRM is free and I own my own saves also. Ok I have 2TB SSD don't need to save space.
In short make Offline INSTALLER PROCESS equal to Galaxy with more clarity as the offline installers say little on the downloads 37 plus 7 patches. Why in 4GB sizes is very annoying. I would prefer to leave PC the day go out and when back all saves loaded. then do the patches - without an definitive answer from anywhere ill have to patch from1.1 to 1.07.728 to 1.1.2 to 1.0.7381 . plus this bears out to the problems being reported,
I would also love some clarification on this. I'm trying to get this game installed on my offline computer at home, downloading the installers using my laptop while I'm in town with internet access. I have no idea what I'm getting, or what I need to get. I just want the latest version. Why are the version numbers not in a simple sequence?
It looks like that two versioning schemes were just clashed here. One is SEMVER (semantic versioning, where you can see the major version, minor version and a patch number, e.g. 1.1.3). Another looks like some kind of internal versioning based on the number of VCS-commits since some point. Therefore these versions are monotonic, but not continuous.

I believe that at some point versioning will stick to SEMVER scheme only. But now, devs are under pressure to fix the vast amount known issues in the game itself. However the mapping of the versions across these schemes would be helpful. On my collection of offline installers the mapping is following:

1.0 → 1.0.424 (one of initial versions) [2024.11.21]
1.0 → 1.0.436 (possibly a hotfix) [2024.11.22]
1.0.3 → ??? (stays the same)
1.1 → 1.0.669
1.1.3 → 1.0.738
Does it mean we need to re-download again the whole STALKER 2 offline installer pack in order to apply the 1.1 and subsquent patches ???! That's highly confusing but also show very poor respect for all of us which don't have the luck to be on fiber connections !
