Hello there,

I heard that the v1.0006 patch for SoC creates more bugs than resolve issues. I also read that it was revoked for that reason. And that most mods requires the game to be patched at v1.005.

Is there a way to downgrade the GoG version to v1.005?
And will Complete mod work on the v1.06 version?

Gilou
I never heard about it introducing more bugs, but the 1.06 (or whatever it is) update addresses only multiplayer issues. So if you played the single player game, it didn't add anything for you.

Have you tried downloading the 1.005 update and applying it over top of your GoG install?
I personally tried to downgrade to 1.0005.
It requires some registry-hacks to get the right version number and change the games product information to retail, to install the 1.0005 patch.
However after I installed OGSE (a mod that require v5) it still didn't work, therefore I can't be sure if it had worked at all though.
But if you are interested I can post a short tutorial how to downgrade....

Hi, The Mechanist! Would you please post the instructions here?
I am trying to downgrade the Russian version of the SoC from v.6 to v.4. I changed InstallVers from 1.0006 to 1.0003 value. But every time when I am installing 1.0004 patch (doesn't matter - Ru, En, or World Wide version of it) I am getting a message: "Setup has detected version [Unknown] installed. This update can be applied only to version [and here it's giving me Ru, En, etc., depending on the patch language]

Thanks!
Sorry, didn't explain properly!
I have tried different combinations of patches and InstallLanguage values - no luck! Looks like for the GOG version of this game we need to put a special "code" there.
Gog made a downgrade patch for IL2 1946, so they may make one for this game too if there is enough call for it.

From what have read elsewhere it would be worth making one.

Regards MarkL
Don't worry, if 1.0006 is really problematic, gog will fix it.

The problem with 1.0006 has more to do with stability and mod compatibility. Ideally I would like see an option in the installer for either 1.0005 or 1.0006. However it is unknown the kind of licensing agreement there is between GSC Game World and GOG, who knows if such a thing would be easy to implement from a contract perspective.

I haven't gotten around to installing SOC yet so I do not know how complex it is to revert to 1.0005. There are some mods ive never tried out, so maybe ill attempt installing 1.0005 sometime soon.
I will put this as short as possible:
First you need to download the International 1.0005 patch (I got mine from here: http://www.4players.de/4players.php/download_start/PC-CDROM/Download/46540.html)
Then you have to change some registry values to what is shown in the attached screenshot or just copy and paste these values here (no guarantee for typing accidents ;))
Path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\GSC Game World\STALKER-SHOC (For 64-Bit systems, 32-Bit seems to be missing the Wow6432Node subfolder, but haven't tested this)
- InstallLang = en (Is case sensitive! Might work with other languages as well, haven't tried that because I wanted the English version ;))
- InstallVers= 1.0004
- InstallSource = stk-for-pack-securom-keydisk-eg (This will make sure that the installer will recognize a a retail version of the game which allows to install the patch)

Now you should be able to install the patch. However it will install und C:..Program Files etc. (at least that is what happened on my computer). Therefore you need to copy the files manually from that patch installation directory to the GoG Install directory.

Technically this should downgraded your game.
I myself installed OGSE right over it and it didn't work. But I cannot say if it's the problem of the mod or a not working downgrade. If anyone could test this method on a vanilla GoG Stalker SoC, that would be great ;)

Thanks a lot!
@TheMechanist

Aren't The retail game .exe (From the retail patch) and the COG game .exe different?
Meaning if you copy paste the files from the patch to the COG SHoC folder you won't be able to play the game without a disk (or a crack). The original .exe contains the secureom disk check.
To be honest I'm not sure about that. I can't remember exactly if I tested it with or without the mod before. All I know is that I thought about that problem too and that I think that it didn't occur in my test run.
Sorry but I'm not going to run the whole thing allover again, therfore somebody else have to confirm what's what ;)
EDIT: For the record: In general you are right of course ;)

I tested it out.
Clean install, Reg edit changes, patch 1.0005, copy over files and the patch exe. (obviously) asks for the disk.
GOG are going to have to release a downgrade patch unless you want to play with a cracked .exe.
Does 1.0005 matter so much? Some mods for that version specifically say that they will work with 1.0006.

Yea, it kind of does. The problem is some mod authors prefer to mod on top of older versions for various reasons. Most mod requirements seem to range from v1.0004, v1.0005 & v1.0006. OGSE (http://www.moddb.com/mods/old-good-stalker-evolution) as previously mentioned will only work on 1.0005. There are others however. Zone of Alienation (http://www.moddb.com/mods/zone-of-alienation-mod) requires v1.0004.

I need to get around to testing the reg hack myself - I am curious if there will be any difference between the US and international patches.
