Looking to play stalker but I got the GOG version which is at 1.6

Do I need to downgrade to 1.5 to use the ZRP and the unofficial 1.8?

There's no such thing. :) Last official version is 1.0006 and ZRP is working fine with it, as well as with 1.0004 and 1.0005. To answer your question - no, there's no need to downgrade GOG version to be able to install ZRP.

You do need to downgrade though if you want to run certain other mods.
