WTF were they thinking. "Ah, here's this information that is completely inconsequential to the player. So let's do a really sane thing and (ab)use the heightened sense of image change in human peripheral vision by constantly begging for notice of this useless information, that's really going to add to the game's athmosphere". Too much vodka?

Ok, that had to be off the chest.

Now I'm wondering, is there *any* way to disable that SOB?
(the floppy disk icon that is "constantly" flashing on the lower right of the screen)

I have found some forum where, years ago, someone posted a selfmade mini mod exactly for that, but the file is gone, and it was made for 1.5.04 anyway wheras the GOG version is 1.5.10.

been some time since I bothered with clear sky, but if you can take a screencap, I'll have a look and see if I have any mod backed up to sort it out / can tell you how to easily mod it yourself.

Hey,

will this do? I don't have any screencapturing software. Took me a few seconds to find one that has it with google images, heh...

Somewhat below the player's hand on the weapon, is the nasity disk icon. That thing flashes "all the time". Well, once a second or so.
Although I could swear mine had a different color and was somewhat bigger, maybe that there is an early version.

"bothered with Clear Sky" you say, have you given up on it? I've heard it's still quite buggy, is it that bad?

Hmmm... yes I seem to remember there is a way to turn it off - cannot remember offhand, but will check up on it and get back to you.

as to the game some elements were pretty good, a little buggy, and worth playing through at least once - even more on secondary runs with some of the mods.
my issue with it is its just the weakest of the series.

Hah I found it bearable to play a while with a "hardware hack", eh, a piece of paper and black adhesive tape un the lower rim of the monitor...
And there I notice something that's also annoying (besides too small FOV) - the movement of the player. It kinda destroys the credibility & hence athmosphere when I walk and move like an infinite acceleration (up to max speed) magical motorcycle instead of a human walking, but then strangely jerky...
Ugh. When I bought a stalker series game, I didn't expect the in-game feeling of one of the dumb shooters like Q3A or UT that I used to play many years back...

I played the other two parts of stalker and thought, hey, let's make this complete ^^ Oh dear.

Well, CS was made by a different team to the other two (some members the same, but after SoC a lot went and made Metro 2033)
There are several methods to get rid of that icon.

(1) Create an empty 32x32x24 BPP DDS file and save it with DXT5 compression. Then create the directory gamedata\textures\ui\ into your Clear Sky root folder and insert the file you created into that directory. Name the file "ui_disk_io" (without the quotes). You can use e.g. Paint.NET to create the empty DDS file.

(2) You can also extract your game files and find gamedata\configs\ui\maingame_16.xml (or just 'maingame.xml' if you're using a non-widescreen resolution) and comment out "ui\ui_disk_io". Search for it (without the quotes) using e.g. Windows Notepad and replace it with "<!--ui\ui_disk_io-->" (again, without the quotes). Then create the directory gamedata\configs\ui\ into your CS root folder and save the altered file into that directory.

Either of these methods will work just fine.

Just found this - likely the file you were on about before, however I think its a simple text file, so will likely be compatible with the gog version - certainly worth a try considering the small filesize. However, you'll likely need to start a new game at any rate.

Theres also a way to regedit the version number - listed somewhere in this subforum, but riught now I can find it.
