I finished recently Shadow of Chernobyl and Clear Sky on Master for the first time, and I want to try Call of Pripyat on this level, after already finished it in Stalker before.

I used just ZRP and SRP as mods/patches, and in fact SRP had my favorite modification, one optional called Alternative Ballistics. It makes every bullet hit, insead of the hit probabilities that change in every difficulty level. It made all those laborious headshots worthwhile and it was satisfying to kill a whole group of bandits with a fast assault rifle spree. Even if I died from nowhere even more than usually... It pisses me off to I meet and enemy face to face and it's just a thrown of dice to see who kills who first. And all sniper rifles, particularly the slow Gauss rifle, just suck with a 50% misfire probability attached to them.

I looked around for something similar for CoP, but the several mods that deal with weapon changes don't say clearly if this is changed or not. Does anybody knows if Arsenal Overhaul, CoP Special Edition (because it includes the old PRP), Better Weapons or some other mod changes this aspect of gunplay?

Also, mod recomendations in general are welcome. AtmosFear and Special Edition looked nice, at first.

Thanks!

Misery.

Since it sounds like you've already played CoP, so all the more reason to try it out if you haven't yet. Some love it, some don't but definitely worth looking into.

If I could play CoP for the first time again, I'd do it with Misery. I'd also choose the Black Road option to begin with, which might seem hard at the start but it gives a good sense of accomplishment and survival.

I saw people saying that Misery 1.X is good, but in their webpage there is a massive backlash to version 2.X. What do you think? I would not complain about some more difficulty, particularly to get money and items (CoP is the easiest of the series regarding this). But too many limitations and unfairly strong opponents doesn't sound so good. That is what I liked in Alternative Balistics, the opponents still had their incredible good aiming and perception, but I could kill anyone with a headshot if I managed to get one... ;)

I've only played v2.x so can't comment on the differences from older versions. When I looked into it and played it I remember some mentioning changes they didn't like and others saying they liked it, though I don't remember overwhelming negativity.

While I played SoC when it was new I played CoP pretty late, at the same time that version of Misery was released. I played through the whole series then played through Misery itself three times. Thoroughly enjoyed it and wished I'd played Misery before CoP as not knowing where things were would have added to the survival/unknown.

I could go on and on about what I liked about it, especially it feeling more harsh and survival like in the zone which is very fitting, though I'll spare you all I liked about it and instead list problems or dislikes.

I remember the prices you get for artifacts seemed low, sure you don't want money to be easy to get but artifacts being valuable is what draws many to the zone. Then again I guess on the other hand once you're more experienced and equipped it's still pretty easy to get them. Though I still decided to change their values a touch.

Also artifact weight was personally a bit heavy (again this affects value since you can only carry so much), I don't remember if I lowered the weight of artifact containers or artifacts themselves, but I made a minor change for myself there.

I also remember a picture of a woman on the wall at the train station, it didn't seem fitting in my opinion so I replaced it with something else, purely personal taste.

The scope sights weren't the greatest, I like thin minimal sights so I edited the ones I didn't like.

I seem to recall a bug with some medication to survive blowouts, but there's also a patch for it, or you can edit some file yourself.

I think there's some extra radio station/songs you can get for it, probably on the forums, some of the songs I hated but some were good, I also added the old Soviet anthem myself as one of the songs as it fit right in.

Well that's about the worst of it that I can remember, everything else was great. I honestly think it's a great improvement over CoP. It adds to the challenge and atmosphere in great ways, for instance I still remember hiding in a hole during a blowout repairing my gear and having something to eat while it passed. Some parts seemed really hard until you know how to handle them, I like when a game make you bug out and run away because you don't know what you're doing yet. Though honestly once you know what you're doing in it it's not hard except for a maybe two spots, one of which can be frustrating if you don't know CoP and where you need to go.

It's not perfect but if you like Stalker CoP and the whole "zone" thing, seriously give it a go.
