Also two possible causes:
1. You haven't applied the 4gb-patch to the .exe yet
2. You are using the enb version of the mod and some overlay program runs in the background (MSI Afterburner etc.). If you don't know what enb is, look here: http://www.gog.com/forum/stalker_series/enb_for_stalkersoc

Uhm.. I think the installer itself asks to patch it for 4gb ram and I always accepted it. I normally use MSI AB but I disabled to see if it was causing the crash and still it didn't work.
